The municipality has an area of 62.61 Km2, and it is divided by the Ebro river into two parts. It is crossed by many mountain ranges and hills. The most important one is, in the left side, the Cardó mountain Range whose highest point is at a height of 941 metres (this is also the highest point of the municipality). The Ebro river crosses these lands and forms one defile of about 10 km. It goes from the Roca Folletera, which was the historical frontier of the lands of Tortosa, closed to Miravet, to Asut de Xerta. It is also known with the names "Pas de Barrufermes" or the Benifallet deviation, and it separates the "cubeta of the Móra de la Vall Aluvial of the Baix Ebre county. Because of the rugged relief of the region, there are many gullies that throw their water into the Ebro river. Some of them are: the Racó del Mas gully, that picks up the water of the Cardó Valley, and from the Vallada de Costumá which is another tributary that arrives by its left. By the right hand side, it arrives the Valle gully. This is the same name that the last part of the Canaletes river, which is born in the Puertos de San Juan, takes.

The weather is temperated, typical of the mediterranean lands. The temperatures are regular and mild. It does not rain frequently. The relief has an influence over the temperatures. It helps to smooth them. The vegetation is composed by bushes and palm heart. The white pine and the rosemary, thyme, white rosemary, etc., are found in every site of the municipality. The Ribera vegetation is formed by poplar-trees, elm trees, reeds, etc. In the Cardó Mountains we can see the scene of the typical holm-oak wood, with the holm-oaks, the yews, a few oak trees, and the bushes as the mistletoe, the butcher's broom, the wild cherry trees, and the honey suckle.
In one sense, it seems that the houses of the village are lost between the lands of orange trees, that spread from the mountain to the river side. In spring, the marvelous perfume of the orange flowers can be smelt in every place. In the Winter months, it is time to pick up the oranges and the mandarins. When the weather is better, the flowers of the almond and the peach-trees put the colors to the fields.
